Ashley grew up on Cape Cod, MA and now lives in a seaside town half-way between Boston and the Cape. Her first paid writing work was in college when she wrote the obituaries and birth announcements for a local paper. That led to more creative writing--radio commercials and in recent years, some food blogging and writing for a Cape Cod newspaper. She loves all things food related and has always been an avid reader, across many genres, romance, mystery, suspense, paranormal and of course, historical.

Interesting characters & storyline but poor editing was more than I could take

The main characters were fun to meet. Liam is good-natured, teasing, and honest. He asks his sister-in-law Emma to invite her friend Julia to come to Montana as a possible mail-order bride for him. Julia agrees, and proves herself to be a worthy partner for him, even when unexpected challenges come their way.

This is the second book in the series. I love the Donovan family and felt Liam and Julia were better developed characters than Ethan and Emma in the first book. The series isn't riveting, but the characters are engaging and family-oriented, which I liked. However, I really struggled with the poor editing of the book. These are things that a simple proofreading should have caught and were distracting to me. A few examples:

First, before the first book began, Liam's sister-in-law Susan died in childbirth. This isn't a spoiler to anyone as it is mentioned as soon as Ethan's character is introduced. The family refers to her as Susan throughout the entire first book, but in Liam and Julia's book she is called Allison. Why?

Second, Julia and Emma grew up in an orphanage in Boston and remained close after leaving the orphanage at age 18 and finding work in the city. Emma worked as a kitchen assistant and Julia as an accounting clerk. Emma was better prepared to be a Montana bride because she could cook. When Julia arrives in Montana, the first thing Emma does is teach Julia to cook, starting with bread. Yet several chapters later she notices they are nearly out of bread and makes a mental note to ask Emma to teach her how to bake bread.

Third, one of the challenges Liam and Julia face comes from someone in the community. When a situation arises that is scary and threatening, Julia shares the experience with Emma and they talk about their shared shock and fear. Two days later, Julia talks with Emma about it again as if Emma is hearing it for the first time.

Each time I took a minute to go back and see if I had remembered the story wrong, and each time I was correct. It felt like I was reading the first rough draft of the story rather than a polished version. It was distracting and detracted from the overall story. I have no plans to read any of the other stories in the series now.

Enjoyed reading about Liam and Julia. I like knowing what happens to characters that were mentioned in a previous book. this is a sweet short story the one thing I found interesting was the discussion of depression. Would doctors know about depression? Question for the author. enjoy reading this romance.

very sweet love story with a bit of mystery

There was nothing new or complex in the story by Ashley Merrick. Just short and sweet a romance that read like a mail order bride novel although Julia was one of the orphans from the Boston Catholic orphanage That was turned out at age 18to make room for other younger children. She was talented in mathematics and when she lost her job felt it was time to join her friend Emily,in Montana,in the hope of becoming her sister in law. Liam was an interesting man with his outgoing personality and dealing with depression at the same time. The cure for Liam was interesting too Then there were the attempts on Liam's life. 4 stars

365 Bedtime Stories

Several people have commented on the content of many stories not being suitable for small children, and I agree with that. Some of the stories are wonderful, some are gruesome, and some are dull. Overall I do not recommend this book. Additionally, the stories are of an inconsistent length making it difficult as "bedtime" reading book. Some are long, and some are less than a paragraph. This can be frustrating for both the child and the parent. Then there are the "variations" which are included as a story for the day but normally are not stories. They simply tell how the tale differs in different areas. To be blunt these variations are exceedingly boring.

Not appropriate for small children

I'm sorry I didn't see the review from "A reader from USA , August 9, 1998", but I agree with the assessment. I purchased this book to read to my 5 year old daughter. I began to read a couple aloud, but found I needed to seriously edit them, or stop reading entirely. Now, I preview each story before I begin - and I find I'm skipping most of them. For example, the first story I selected told the disturbing tale of a bird that helps an abandoned dog find food and rest only to watch him get run over and killed. The bird then seeks revenge on the driver and succeeds in having him killed.

Best Sex Toy Guide Ever

I have been a customer of Toys in Babeland for many years and I was so thrilled to hear the owners had written a book. I was even happier to get a copy of Sex Toys 101 and see all of their knowledge put to print - all the amazing tips and techniques that they have been teaching women (myself included!) in their stores for years are packing in there. It's a beautiful book, full of colorful images, and packed full of quality information. I have read every sex guide I could get my hands on and I have to say, this is the best sex toy guide ever.

Colorful and well-written

On one hand this is a product manual hyping what "Toys in Babeland" sells but it is also a great example of sexual information made fun and readily available. The photographs are excellent and well laid out so the book is pleasing visually. The information is well-written and well-researched with opinions back by experience and facts. Contrary to the store's name, there is not just toys and information for women. There are also nice little stories about how the store has affected people's lives, both customers and workers. I just wish the resource list was longer.

What did you get for Christmas?

Written by the founders of the store Toys in Babeland this book is truly an uninhibited guide to erotic toys. Written in modern day language this book is a great reference guide, especially if you happen to be too shy to walk into your local sexual aid store. If you don't live in a very big town you probably will not find a store with an informed staff that can show you what's available and help you pick out a toy to meet your needs so this book is a perfect guide.

I must confess, in the past I've never been interested in toys so this book was quite refreshing to read. It gives you a great introduction to the toys available on the market. There are ten chapters that cover sexual anatomy (briefly), sexual expression & communication, vibrators, dildos & strap-ons, toys for men, lubricant (a whole chapter, WOW), bondage & domination, SM, and safety. Each chapter gives you, in detail everything you need to know about the highlighted toy pictured from what it's made of, to how to care for the toy. They even tell you the history of such toys and how to use each one featured in the book.

This book is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye with its colorful still life photographs of sexual toys but its overall design, texture, and feel. It's just heavy enough to warrant the price I paid for it, every page is glossy & smooth, and the writing is forward & fun. Where else will you see a section titled, `Dildos are for everyone'.

Oh, before I forget, my favorite thing in the whole book was the "Wondrous Vulva Puppet" by House O'Chicks. It so intrigued me and it was beautiful.

It's a great book full of fun stuff but with all that great info no where did I see how to use those `ben wa' balls I got for Christmas, but don't let that stop you from reading this book. It's great.

When I purchased this book, I wasn't completely sure as to what I would find inside. I think this book can be in the mix of start up books for those who are trying to deepen their consciousness about themselves and the world that we live in. There are two parts of the book, the first being involved in the teaching of knowledge of self as it pertains to melanated people. The second part is composed of information about the United States and some things that are hidden from the public as a way of keeping the people misinformed. Solid read!

A must read. A lot of needed information. The words are too small to read. I would've loved a larger print. Very informative. The price was affordable for such life altering information. I am buying more books to give as gifts.

The Black Bible Of Science.

I enjoyed this entertaining read, its nice to read the shenanigans of the "rich powerful elites" on the planet, read like a Mexican Novella. while I cosigned some of what is written in this book, I also gave Dr Osei the *side eye* on others so you mean to tell me the epidural I had when they had to do an emergency C-section with my 4th child, she could possibly be a clone? so now I'm *side eying* my own "child" While the cloning of government officials is very plausible, as I have given a few of them the *side eye*. I have to draw the line at epidural cloning at least while having a live birth, while I'm quite a bit of a conspiracy theorist myself *pats tinfoil hat* there is very relevant information in this book concerning banking, law enforcement, our civil liberties and the like, but in the beginning of the book, Dr Osei threw shade on the "god" said he does not exist then turned around quoted said god and "christ" who are myths, so which is it? and how does this fit into metaphysics? while the christ concept being the 12 zodiac is nothing new to those who have taken the time to researched the hot mess that is religion, the bible and its churches along with its leader the pope and queen of England and their ilk. Dr Osei is like any other patriarchal "leader" in the black community they all get the *side eye* from me, its nice he told his brothers to stop mistreating the black woman as when she is fully awake and resurrected to her true power, we will see some major shifts on this planet collectively.
